Meet Owner, Whitney VredenburghWhitney Vredenburgh

Tell us about Nested Spaces.

I began Nested Spaces four years ago (in 2016) after an almost ten year career in corporate America in marketing, sales and customer relations.  I felt called to step away from my steady job and try my hand at business ownership and interiors. Initially, we (my husband and me) started out small with all the inventory in my garage, as we grew with the business demand, we have expanded into a warehouse. My love for interiors began early.  I was always rearranging my room, trying new wall colors and having fun with decor.  In the late 90s my mom, a realtor, began incorporating staging and the results were dramatic. Suffice it to say, I love helping realtors stage and sell their properties and I love helping homeowners love where they live.

What is your Background/Experience?

I majored in Botany and minored in Marketing at Miami of Ohio.  When I graduated, I worked for an agriculture company in St. Louis while getting my Masters in International Business.  During my masters, I traveled to China during the Beijing Olympics as part of a study abroad component and it was so fascinating to see a different part of the world. When I began thinking about this new business, I enrolled in Home Staging Resource and got their certification.  It’s a great program and is endorsed by RESA, the Real Estate Staging Association.  Since starting Nested Spaces, I’ve been involved in the local RESA Indianapolis chapter and am serving as President in 2020.  I’m also a RESA Pro Member. At Nested Spaces, my hope is that my brand reflects a love for smart, functional design with a goal of trying new things.

What is your favorite project you have been a part of so far?

I love every project for a different reason.  The best part of a project is the reveal, showing a realtor or homeowner how their home can evolve and change with larger updates like a new kitchen or smaller updates like moving around the furniture and adding some updated artwork and pillows.  My favorite part is see the big reveal, when their eyes light up in wonder.

What is your current design obsession?

I am a big fan of navy-in décor, in accent walls or accent islands, in pillows, in artwork, really any accent will do.  Navy is classic which is why Naval is Sherwin Williams color of the year. I love bringing the outdoors in.  For a homeowner, bring live plants or succulents adds color to a room.  We also use moss for vases, bowls, and more.  It adds color and doesn’t need watering.  So, it’s a win win. We are also seeing more walnut cabinetry in kitchens and I love the warmth it adds to a home (notice I didn’t say oak).  White is still very popular for kitchen cabinets as is light gray or greige.

What are some of your hobbies?

I enjoy being outdoors.  I love going to the parks in Indianapolis. And, I love practicing qigong.  You can do it anywhere and it helps ground me in so many different ways.  Indy Healing Center teaches qigong to the community, I can’t recommend Melissa (the owner) enough.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I have four crazy kids-ages almost 8, 6 and 2.5 year old twins and a 13 year old cat, Muffie.  Muffie is the best behaved of all of them.  🙂  My kids keep me grounded, responsible and laughing.
